Jules Turner - Tenor/Soprano Saxophones
Jules has been playing music since he was about six years old. He remembers starting on percussions which he was soon banned from playing due to frightening the other kids in his class by crashing the cymbals too loudly. He graduated onto Piano and after about two or three years gave it up and went on to play the Clarinet. After leaving school at sixteen and being persuaded that work in IT was going to make him more money than Music he gave up playing until his late twenties. During a visit to the US, Jules attended a concert in Washington DC and it was then he decided that he needed to get on and play again. On his return from the trip he picked up his Clarinet and joined a local wind band.
Jules rapidly made up for lost time and developed his musical skills, learning to sight read (He played all his music by ear), taking the odd exam etc. At the same time he was given the opportunity to play the Saxophone which, at first, he found almost impossible. Perseverance prevailed and soon he began to gain confidence and started to delve into Jazz improvisation, stepping away from his classical roots. - (continue)
